ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT AND MONITORING

Décontam operates in accordance with the conditions established in its certificate of authorization and the operating permit from the Montreal Metropolitan Community. All the activities related to the environmental follow-up are under the responsibility of an independent firm with a renowned experience in the biotreatment of contaminated soils.

  • To control the quality of air, main purification systems are made up of two layers that serve as filters for dust and absorption of granular activated carbon.
  • As for the program to monitor the emissions, it consists of measuring the presence of volatile organic composites in the carbon filtration pipes and around the facilities using a photoionizer.
  • Décontam ensures that the process used for the release of air through the purification systems respects the regulations relating to air quality (CMM: By-law 90) by analyzing samples of the air released using the chromatography method at the gaseous phase.
  • Environmental monitoring reports are submitted to the Montreal Metropolitan Community. These reports give the results of the samples taken of the air (photoionizer data and analytic) and water.
  • An annual report is issued to the ministry which summarizes the activities carried out by Décontam for the previous year and presents all the data collected concerning the environmental follow-up. It also includes the measures for improving the environmental conditions.
