CONTEXT
Environmental
preoccupations with respect to contaminated soils have taken a
long time to be addressed. However, during the past decade, this
aspect has become an important issue with respect to industrial
activities where previously production and profitability objectives
discarded the need for an ecological management of these residues.
The
introduction of new technologies on decontamination, especially
biotechnologies, created a new era such that research and commercial
activities on the enhanced value of contaminated soil are now
not to be ignored. In fact, the regulations of the ministère
du Développement durable, de l'Environnement et des Parcs
(ministry of sustainable development, environment and parks) now
require soils to be subject to treatment when technology exists.
It is with these environmental challenges in mind that the Montreal
Center of Excellence in Brownfields Rehabilitation (MCEBR) was
created, whose mission is to stimulate and support technological
innovation in the field of decontamination of sites and to promote
the industry's expertise in this area.
Inspired by these changes, Décontam wants to be part of and
contribute to all the opportunities associated therewith.
